About this course

This unit teaches you how to plan and carry out work at heights in a safe and controlled way, following the procedures required industry. You will learn how to identify fall hazards, select and fit the right personal protective equipment, use ladders correctly, and respond to height-related emergencies. The training covers both the knowledge and the practical skills needed to meet workplace and regulatory requirements for working at heights in Australia. It suits people working or looking to work in construction, civil works, mining, utilities, or related site-based industries where working at heights is part of the job. If your employer has asked you to complete this unit before accessing certain work areas, or if you want to make sure your skills and knowledge meet current industry standards, this unit is designed for you. After completing this training, you will be able to identify and manage fall risks, correctly inspect and use fall-arrest and restraint equipment, and follow safe work procedures when working from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, or other elevated positions. You will also know how to respond if something goes wrong while working at heights, giving you and your workmates greater confidence on site.

What you'll learn

  • Apply fall prevention and fall arrest systems in accordance with safe work method statements
  • Respond to height-related emergencies using rescue procedures appropriate to the worksite

  • Demonstrate safe movement and positioning techniques when working on elevated structures or platforms
