Who's this for

Develop the life-saving knowledge and practical skills to perform CPR in an emergency.

About this course

This short course teaches you how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult, child, or infant. You will learn to recognise when someone has stopped breathing or their heart has stopped, how to call for emergency help, and how to carry out chest compressions and rescue breaths correctly. Training follows the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and includes hands-on practice with a resuscitation manikin. This unit suits anyone who needs a current CPR certificate for work, a volunteer role, or personal peace of mind. It is commonly required for people working in childcare, aged care, fitness, education, and many other fields where a duty of care applies. No prior first aid knowledge is needed to enrol. After completing this unit, you will be able to respond confidently if someone collapses, perform CPR until emergency services arrive, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in combination with CPR. Your certificate is valid for 12 months, at which point a refresher is recommended to keep your skills and knowledge current.

What you'll learn

  • Perform single-rescuer CPR on adults, children, and infants using correct compression depth, rate, and hand placement
  • Operate an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely in a cardiac emergency
  • Recognise the signs of cardiac arrest and respond with an appropriate sequence of actions
  • Follow the DRSABCD action plan to manage an unresponsive casualty
  • Demonstrate safe airway management techniques, including head-tilt chin-lift and rescue breathing
  • Manage your own safety and the safety of bystanders at an emergency scene
  • Communicate effectively with emergency services when calling triple zero (000)
