About this course

This unit teaches you how to follow and contribute to workplace health and safety practices in a health or community services setting. You will learn to identify hazards, report risks, follow safe work procedures, and respond appropriately to incidents and emergencies. The focus is on your role as a worker — understanding your WHS rights and responsibilities and knowing when and how to raise safety concerns. This unit suits people working in, or preparing to work in, aged care, disability support, community services, or other health-related roles where day-to-day safety practices are part of the job. It is particularly relevant if you are new to the sector and want a clear grounding in how WHS legislation and workplace policies apply to you directly. After completing this unit, you will be able to follow WHS procedures with confidence, contribute to a safe environment for clients and colleagues, and handle situations such as identifying a workplace hazard or responding to an incident in a way that meets your legal obligations. These are practical skills you will apply from your first shift.

  • Respond to emergency situations in accordance with workplace procedures
