About this course

This unit covers the skills and knowledge you need to safely and competently operate an integrated tool carrier (ITC) in a resources and infrastructure setting. You'll learn how to carry out pre-operational checks, select and attach appropriate tools and attachments, and operate the machine across a range of site conditions. The unit also addresses safe load handling, travelling on slopes and uneven terrain, and shutting down and securing the machine at the end of a shift. This unit suits people working in civil construction, mining, or quarrying who already operate plant and machinery and want to add ITC operation to their competencies. It is also well suited to those new to the industry who are building a foundation of plant operation skills. You'll need to demonstrate your competency in a real or simulated workplace environment, so a practical, hands-on approach to learning is essential. After completing this unit you'll be able to plan and carry out ITC operations in line with site requirements, manufacturer specifications, and work health and safety legislation. You'll understand how to select the right attachments for the task, position loads correctly, and respond to hazards and environmental conditions. These practical skills may lead to roles such as plant operator, civil construction labourer, or mine site operator.
