About this course

This bundle covers two units of competency that are commonly paired together on civil construction and mining sites across Australia. You'll learn to safely operate a smooth drum or padfoot roller for compaction work, and an articulated haul truck (commonly called a Moxy) for moving materials across rough or uneven terrain. Both units address pre-operational checks, safe work practices, load and site hazards, and the shutdown and handover procedures that employers expect operators to follow on live worksites. This bundle suits people who are entering plant operations or who already hold some site experience and want to formalise their skills across two complementary machines. If you're working in earthworks, road construction, quarrying, or civil projects and want to broaden your ticket set, these two units are a practical combination to complete together. After finishing both units you'll be able to demonstrate competency in roller and articulated haul truck operations to the standards required under the RII Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package. This means you'll have the documentation to show employers and labour hire companies that your skills have been formally assessed against national competency standards.

What you'll learn

  • Operate a smooth drum or padfoot roller safely in civil construction and mining environments
  • Plan and execute compaction tasks by selecting appropriate roller settings and techniques for different material types
  • Inspect, pre-start and shut down roller plant in accordance with workplace and manufacturer requirements
  • Manoeuvre an articulated haul truck over varied terrain, gradients and underfoot conditions while managing load stability
  • Conduct pre-operational checks, servicing handovers and defect reporting for articulated haul trucks
  • Apply site traffic management procedures and haul road etiquette when operating both roller and articulated haul truck equipment
  • Respond to equipment faults, environmental hazards and emergency situations following relevant safety and site protocols
