About this course
TAEASS412 Assess competence teaches you how to plan and conduct competency-based assessments in a vocational education and training context. You will learn to interpret assessment tools, gather and evaluate evidence against unit of competency requirements, make and record judgements about whether a candidate is competent or not yet competent, and provide clear feedback to candidates about their performance.
This unit suits people who are working as, or moving into, a training and assessment role within an RTO or a workplace training setting. If you are already delivering training and need to formalise your assessment practice, or if your job requires you to assess the skills of colleagues or apprentices against a nationally recognised standard, this unit gives you the specific knowledge and practical skills to do that properly.
After completing this unit you will be able to prepare for and carry out structured competency assessments, apply the principles of validity, reliability, fairness and flexibility to your assessment decisions, manage assessment documentation in line with regulatory requirements, and handle appeals or complaints that arise from your judgements. These are the core tasks that assessors carry out in compliant VET assessment practice.
