Mark a student's assessment attempt

Where: Trainer portal → "Marking Queue" → "Mark"

  1. In "Marking Queue", press "Mark" on the attempt you want to assess. The "Review & Mark" page opens.
  2. Read the student's answer to each question. Voice or video answers play right on the page.
  3. Under each answer, press "Satisfactory" or "Needs Work". (On an observation checklist the buttons read "Observed" and "Not observed".)
  4. To leave a comment on a question, press "Add feedback (optional)" and type a note — or record a voice or video note instead.
  5. Every question must be marked before you can submit. An amber note tells you how many are still unmarked.
  6. Under "Outcome", press "Competent" or "Not yet competent" for the unit of competency. Smaller buttons for "RPL granted" (recognition of prior learning) and "Credit transfer" sit below — before using those, check with your compliance officer.
  7. Choose the "Assessment Method" from the list (Written, Observation, Practical, and so on).
  8. Tick "Reasonable adjustment was made" and describe the adjustment if you changed how the student was assessed.
  9. Write your "Overall feedback to the student" — or press "Record voice feedback" to say it instead. This is what the student reads first.
  10. Use "Attach evidence (optional)" to add photos or documents that support your decision.
  11. Press "Submit Judgement".
  12. The "Assessor declaration" window opens. Tick the declaration statements, type your full name in "Type your full name to sign", and press "Sign & submit".

What happens next The student sees the outcome and your feedback in their portal. If this was the last unit of competency on the course, the page offers "Yes — issue the certificate now" — tick it to issue at the moment of marking, or leave it and issue later from the learner's enrolment page.

If something looks wrong If you see "Your credential tier does not permit marking", your tier (1C, 1D or Industry Expert) can't record outcomes on its own — contact your admin.
